Rainbow BRT is being developed as a high quality, customer-oriented public bus transport service. It is managed by Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd and developed with the support of Pune Municipal Corporation and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. Pune Traffic Police is providing the support for management of traffic for smooth operation of Rainbow BRT.

Bus Rapid Transit provides an integrated network of safer, faster, affordable and more efficient public transport. Dedicated lanes ensure that BRT buses are able to run efficiently and rapidly along their routes, helping passengers reach their destinations easily. Commuters can experience high quality BRT stations, level boarding facility, real time bus arrival information and voice announcements on Rainbow BRT.

Watch videos about Rainbow BRT at Rainbow YouTube Channel

Rainbow BRT is not about moving buses in a bus lane, but providing a comfortable, smart and high quality bus service for commuters.

  4. Hi,
I m plannin to book a flat which is in brt corridor of brt feeder road. The society is not brt road or not even along brt road side. The pcmc approved plan has 450 sq Mt brt parking reservation in this project. This reserved parking is completely in society, not separated from society. When I have asked builder he said he can buyback that parking. Is it possible to buyback parking. Shall I go ahead to book flat in such projects. Almost all project on brt corridor have this reservation. As this parking is in society compound it self with single entrance, this will lead to security threats to owner. Is it true that only parking which is on brt road will be used. The parking which is not in brt road is not get used. Why does brt feeder road have such rules

    • Please get in touch with the Town Planning Department of PCMC for the policy details on parking earmarked along BRT corridors. You may also send your query on SARATHI which will be forwarded to the concerned department in PCMC. BRT Cell of PMPML is only responsible for the infrastructure within the corridor Right of Way and Operations Planning & Mgmt.

  5. First congratulations to PMPML !! for starting the Yerwada-Wagholi BTRS , as i see many People are Happy to use it.
But but still I feel when BTRS it enters in Wagholi from old Jakat naka ,there some chaos happens as the roads are not widened properly,

BRTs road should be extended through Wagholi also ,this will ensure proper transport system and avoid frequest Jams.

some buses are standing on main road near to New Terminal and causes traffic jam, also the Bus Treminal needs to be upgraded with attractive structure..

as now a days Wagholi is growing with high speed hence this transport system with good facilities will definitely make it proud and attractive further.

hope to see these improvements in Near future to make Pune city proud.

Also try to change signal system to provide BRT preference. As of now other vehicles have preference which cause delay to BRT.

  9. Still I realize that number of buses is not enough in Pune for both PMC & PCMC because of this , lot of People does not prefer bus. At least In office perk hours , Extra buses should be there for every route if transport team is really want to make BRT successful in Pune. Also old bus gets stuck in BRT route at some time. All old buses should be replaced as soon as possible. Pollution Index is very high 70+ in Pune. CNG Buses should be implemented like DELHI.

Some Observations and Suggestions for better BRTS Experience:
    1) Security Guard is found missing most of the time at many of the entry points of Wakad-Govind Garden Chowk Stretch (Especially at Wakadgaon Chowk BRTS Stop)..Due to this private vehicles enter the BRTS lane and cause danger to commuters crossing the BRTS Bus stop. Please warn Security Guard Agency.

    2) Please repair faulty speed breakers in across all and entire BRTS route..These speed breakers give big jerk to spine and also increase the travel time. DON’T install any more speed breakers in BRTS lane.Speedbreakers in BRTS lane defeat the very purpose of RAPID transport.

    3) Frequent check-up and maintenance of all BRTS stops for safety is very much necessary.Smooth working of busstop doors and LCD TVs of Bus Timing is required for giving better BRTS Experience.

Having great hope from BRTS Cell for these suggestions. Thank You!

Today on 23rd Feb 2016 at 9.45 am at Ganpati matha bus stop, bus no. 276 Chinchwadgaon (from warje malwadi ) bus (bus no. MH 14 CW 3036) we have faced some problems.Rather everyday we face these issues.
First of driver was too arrogant he closed the door at first stop people were running behind the bus and in between he open the door and on every stop he was playing like that only and conductor was also not giving name of the driver when I asked and he was also quarreling with lady in the same bus , every day we are facing the same issues , buses are not coming on time and if luckily they come that time no space to stand also , who is responsible for it? will you be responsible for it , If someone get hurt because of it?
We are going towards the smart city . Pimpri chinchwad got clean city awards still service is like this. Feeling very guilty to have this kind of service with us.
I kindly request you to look into it.

Why are you not thinking to start some buses from phase 1 to accommodate passengers from phase 1?
One more suggestion, to start special buses for women.

      • I think the reply by the moderator above is incorrect. The Spot-18 parking has been designated as BRT parking and the information is available on PCMC website. If the parking is being charged it needs to be reported. (It has to be free for BRTS users)
Following is an extract from the PCMC website:
“Spot-18 Mall, Opp. To BRT bus stop Sai Chowk-Pinple Saudagar near Jagtap Dairy Chowk
It has provision for parking of 22 cars, 65 two wheelers & 22 cycles.”

Almost no direct bus from Paud Road to Senapati Bapat Road. Can PMPML divert some bus routes from Kothrud Depot via Law College Road instead of always sending through Karve Road-Fergusson College Road? It may improve the Bus Passenger Load factor on both Karve Road as well as Law College-Senapati Bapat Road.

  21. I travel across nagar road almost everyday and the situation there I pathetic. Firstly the PMC side of this whole BRTS is the worst I have ever seen. The whole thing has become a joke with people using the space to park unused vehicles or to cut across traffic which is trying to religiously follow the rules. Keeping security to ward off people from the BRTS lanes is the saddest thing I have ever seen and it is only necessary because people have grown tired of the space just sitting there and not being utilised. In the corridor map a nice flawless connection for the nagar road route is shown, whereas in reality it is being used to keep road repairing materials and machines, parking, practice areas for dhol tasha bands etc. The people who have designed the lanes in this stretch need to get a serious reality check as the distancing from the footpaths is random and resultant traffic flow in other lanes is chaotic.
I remember nagar road being one of the easiest roads to drive from as I have been travelling on it since 2007. This whole waste of money , resources, time , energy and road space which the PMC claims a success is the worst thing to happen to pune public transportation which already ranks among the lowest of public opinions.

The best part is now the project has spent so much money they will say it is a success no matter what happens.I request the PMC to please remove these hideous things from the road and give one of the formerly widest roads in pune back.

If even a fraction of this money would have been spent on the existing bus service we would not be having two failed public transportations systems at our hand.

    • Dear Bhavin, thanks for your observations. As you may know, the Nagar Road corridor has not yet been launched. The BRT is a complex project with multiple components, and the creation of separate lanes (which is the most visible) is only one part of it. A terminal space is being identified at Wagholi for BRT routes. The parked vehicles would be removed before launch. The stations are being refurbished and will have signage, display systems, security personnel and wardens. Thank you for your patience.

  22. Hi team,

Not seen any actual response or visible action to all the posts done so far.

All you say is PMC/PCMC is looking into it, while PMPML is actually mounting more losses.

Could someone even take the effort of putting meaningful responses to comments???

    Like

    • Thank you Jegan, and apologies for delay in responses. PMPML, like most public transit utilities (including metro rail) around the world is a subsidized system. The revenue from tickets is not enough to meet the expenses of running the system, since ticket price also needs to be affordable. Incremental steps through policy decisions are being taken to reduce losses, without inconveniencing the public at large. This requires the cooperation of all stakeholders. However BRT routes are performing better than regular routes and with a larger network of corridors it will improve further.

      Like

      • I am sorry to say this but while you state that this whole transport thing may be subsidised, I see no efforts being put in place to use so much of the construction space for advertising or any better utilisations.
Why get corporates in Kharadi, Yerwada, Jailroad, Hinjewadi on board to help you in the upkeep in return for branding and signages on the BRT walls, BRT stops and buses too?
I don’t know how you guys work but if you guys did show guts to get things in place and work accordingly then I think personally that things would already in place for a more efficient public transport system.

All those who managed PMPML and showed grit managed to get much better feedback for you, dont see why you guys cant continue to show your part of the work and continue by managing losses more efficiently and look at ways to gather more interest in your business?
I understand that all is subsidised but what are you doing to ensure you do not live by these subsidies but rather manage an efficient business with low fares and yet good returns??

      • Hi,

I referred to the BRTS walls which were put up on the road for the dedicated bus lane.

Its a lot of space which is only getting difficult for you to maintain with your limited funds.

      • The revenue from tickets is actually more than enough, if your iorganization shows “Will to adapt and Will to Win”.
Break your Rashtrawadi Union, let your workforce follow discipline, everything will fall in place.
Your ticket rates are more than Mumbai BEST. As you know, Mumbai is costliest city to live in.

What your organization lacks is “Will and Discipline” and there is no “Mai ka Lal” to instill it in your rogue, complacent and indisciplined workers.

If you can ply buses with adherance to timetable on “Raksha-Bandhan” as you proudly claim, what happens on other 364 days. This shows, you have capability, but, you do not have WILL.

If you ply buses, “Reliably and Predictably”, entire Hinjewadi will use it.

“Kaal bus breakdown zali, mhanoon cancel zali”. Such foolish reasons are given by your conductors in 21st century. If bus breaks down, you got to have enough backup buses ready at Depot. You are being paid for such planning.

If your salary is canceled for a month, will you accept it? “Bank transfer nit zali nahi, mhanoon hya welechi salary cancel zali”. Asa chalel ka tumhala?

We (as in corporate sector) work with accountability. If my meeting is scheduled at 2:00 PM, it starts at 2:00 PM. I can’t rely on your unpredictable service, which CANCELs buses at will.

If you do not put end to such irresponsible attitude, people will eventually put end to PMPML itself.
The day is not far away when people will start using something like “Ola/Uber for Private Buses”. PMPML will be then left in condition that Auto-Rickshaws are in today.

    • Good observation. I would like to add to this that also at the next crossing- towards Vimannagar at the Hotel Novotel Chowk- the BRT track is not aligned properly on either side of the crossing- thus interfering with the regular traffic. Likewise at the further next crossing at Phoenix mall also the BRT track is not aligned properly and the pathway from the bus stop is tilted to end into the entry of an underground subway. Some measures should be taken to re-align all these junctions.

      • Looks putting any observation or complaint is useless. As all govt depts, one tjing starts with a bang and then later all is forgotten and all failures are because another dept did not support. Eventually public money siphoned off and public made to look like fools for even bringing up an issue.

      • Nagar road track is a real mess before operations start, wonder how things would get better.

First they started by making a huge mess when they laid the road, then the pedestrian subways were made only to be broken as they realised a middle lane BRT did not need 2 subway openings. Next the alignments are skewed near Hyatt and Phoenix. Lighting is pathetic, no care has been taken to even try and keep foothpaths…. or roads free of encroachments. Footpaths are filled with potholes, cars, and in most parts do not exist. Now PMPML says this is PMC’s mismanagement, and PMC is as it is useless. Why create hype over something that is essentially a bundle of failures.
PMPML hope you are listening, as have rarely heard from you when it came to someone actually telling you there is a problem nor have we seen any improvements taking place from the time the operations began in Vishrantwadi.
This new BRTS is going exactly the same way as the Katraj one, with all money going waste and eventually only making a fool of the citizens.

  24. Hi All,

I really appreciate the fact that despite so many months that the Vishrantwadi BRTS corridor began, the system is still running well almost like it started yesterday. Really good job done.

I have however a couple of worrying concerns which I have listed below and request you to look into them ASAP to ensure no inconvenience is made as seen in the botched up Swargate BRTS due to the same issues:

    1) Buses Jump signals all over, including the BRT ones. This may end up causing accidents and thereby BRT may loose credibility as seen before.
    2) Signalling is still poor, with no one to ensure adequate measures are put in place to ensure people follow the same. Again an accident whether or not involving a BRT bus, would still cause an uproar against the system as seen in the pilot Swargate to Katraj one.
    3) Level boarding is good, but still commuters face an ardeous challenge in crossing the road, Vishrantwadi Sathe biscuit is a prime example. No one stops on the road to let the public walk across the road nor are the guards helping in any manner.
    4) Guards are supposed to ward off vehicles from the BRT lanes, but mostly they are happy talking to each other in one corner in the shade instead of ensuring passenger and bus safety.

Can someone do repeated audits at your end and ensure this money spent is well spent and success is better and more encouraging for more people to use the BRT system.

as every thing is organised and only 1 entry if possible please issue tickets also in major points like swaragte, vishranthwadi, shivaji nagar….etc. this will help at times of crowd or else in crowd i use to pay 20 for 15 rs ticket also.
